The Members of the 2015 Young Artist Competition for Bassoon Committee are pleased to announce the finalists of this year’s competition:

We are pleased to announce the finalists for the 2014 IDRS Young Artist Oboe competition. These finalists were chosen from a strong field of twenty-one applicants from nine countries: Austria, Germany, Hong Kong, Kazakhstan, Korea, Spain, Taiwan, USA, and Venezuela. It was exciting to hear such a talented and diverse group of oboists.

The finalists (in alphabetical order) are Joshua Loretig, USA (student of Richard Woodhams), Jesus Morillas Alonso of Spain (student of Christian Schmitt and David Zúñiga Hidalgo) and Emily Moscoso, USA (student of Rebecca Henderson). The alternate selected is William Welter, USA (student of Richard Woodhams). The International Double Reed Society wishes to extend the utmost gratitude to the first-round judges Nicholas Daniel (UK/Germany), Dwight Parry (USA) and Susan Hatch Tomkiewicz (USA). Please plan to attend the final competition on Thursday, August 7th at the conference in New York, NY, USA.

We are pleased to announce the finalists for the 2014 Gillet-Fox Bassoon Competition. The five finalists were chosen from a field of 53 applicants from all over the world. The five finalists chosen by the judges (in alphabetical order) are:

Miles Maner (Chicago Symphony, student of Benjamin Kamins and Kristin Wolfe Jensen)

Sebastian Stevensson (Royal Danish National Symphony, student of Ole Kristian Dahl and Knut Sönstevold)

Mathis Kaspar Stier (Mahler Jugendorchester and National Youth Orchestra of Germany, student of Eberhard Marschall, Lyndon Watts, and Markus Fromm)

The alternate is:
Simon Van Holen (Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, student of Gustavo Núñez)

The preliminary round judges were Judith Farmer (USA), Gaëlle Habert (France), Yoshihide Kiryu (Japan), Harry Searing (USA), and Lyndon Watts (Australia/Germany). Many thanks to those judges for all the hours they put in evaluating the applications. The final round will take place on August 8, 2014 with the winner of the competition featured on the closing night of the conference.
