The finalists and alternate for the 2010 Gillet-Fox Bassoon Competition have been selected.  The finalists, listed alphabetically, are:

  • Constantin Barcov, former student of Ronald Wirt and Dag Jensen
  • Sophie Dartigalongue, former student of Carlo Colombo and Jean Pignoly
  • Emily Hultmark, former student of Martin Gatt, Graham Salvage, Volker Tessmann, Stepan Turnovsky, Robin O’Neill, and Anders Engstrom
  • Fei Xie, former student of George Sakakeeny and Benjamin Kamins
  • Philipp Zeller, former student of Albrecht Holder and Dag Jensen
  • The selected alternate is:

  • Amanda Swain, student of Christopher Millard and Lewis Kirk, former student of Kristin Wolfe Jensen and Jeff Robinson

The Gillet-Fox final round will be held in Sharp Hall on Friday, June 25, from 9:00am-11:30am at the IDRS2010 conference, hosted by the University of Oklahoma in Norman, OK, USA.  The final round is open to conference attendees.  The winner of the competition will perform the Mignone Concertino with orchestra on the Saturday, June 26 evening concert.

Judges for the preliminary round were:

  • Peter Kolkay, Assistant Professor of Bassoon, University of South Carolina; Principal Bassoon, South Carolina Philharmonic
  • Bram van Sambeek, Principal Bassoon, Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra
  • Alexandre Silvério, Principal Bassoon, São Paulo Symphony Orchestra
  • Robert Williams, Principal Bassoon, Detroit Symphony Orchestra; Instructor of Bassoon, Wayne State University
