Double Reed Online

The latest news and event announcements from around the double reed world.

Popkin was a mentor and inspiration to bassoonists worldwide not only at UNCSA, but also as the founder along with Loren Glickman of the Glickman-Popkin Bassoon Camp, which is now going into its 34th year.  He was a wonderful orchestral and chamber musician with numerous recordings to his name.  He played in various major orchestras, including the Mostly Mozart Festival Orchestra in New York City for over 30 years.  He was an innovator in reed making, producing his own tools and co-authoring “Bassoon Reed Making, Maintenance, and Repair” with fellow bassoonist Loren Glickman.

Popkin’s students can be found in orchestras and universities across the globe.  Through them, his legacy will be preserved.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Glickman-Popkin Bassoon Camp Scholarship Fund.  Make checks payable to the Wildacres Foundation with GP Bassoon Camp in the memo line.  Donations can be sent to:
