Bio: Robert M. Mayer (1910-1994) has led a distinguished lifetime in performance and teaching the oboe and English horn. He served the Chicago Symphony Orchestra for twenty-five years and was professor of oboe and head of the Woodwind, Brass, and Percussion Departments at Northwestern University for fifteen Years. Having performed and taught throughout the United States as not only a member of the Chicago Symphony Woodwind Quintet but master clinician as well, Robert Mayer has led a singularly devoted life developing and inspiring everyone with whom he has come in contact. His students have included such people as: Grover Schiltz and Richard Kanter (currently in the Chicago Symphony), Jerry Sirucek, Humbert Lucarelli, Jane Marvine, Marc Fink, Earl Clemens, members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Indianapolis Symphony, and many more. There can be no doubt that he has contributed significantly to all of us and has been widely recognized as a teacher of teachers.
