He later served as vice president and president. He has performed at several conferences on both oboe and bassoon. Knepper taught woodwinds at numerous schools: Southern Mississippi, College of Emporia, Washburn University, Baylor University, North Texas State, and Texas Christian University, from which he retired in 1990. He has performed with the Dallas Symphony, the Metropolitan Opera (on tour), and the Topeka, Waco, Toledo, and Fort Worth orchestras. He is known as a "doubler", performing solo recitals on the various woodwinds. A graduate of the University of Michigan, he studied oboe with Phillip Kirchner, William Fitch, and Myron Russell, and bassoon with Hugh Cooper and Will Roberts. In retirement, Knepper plays clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone in volunteer ensembles in the Fort Worth area.
