Bio: Richard Lottridge began his musical education at the Curtis Institute of Music as astudent of Sol Schoenbach. After graduating in 1955 he joined the New Orleans Philharmonic for one season, after which he attended Yale University and received his BM degree. While at Yale, he received coaching from oboist Robert Bloom. Following graduation from Yale, he auditioned for Fritz Reiner and won the contra bassoon position in the Chicago Symphony where he remained for seven seasons (1958-65). Lottridge joined the faculty of the University of Wisconsin in 1965 where he remained until retirement in May, 1997. During his thirty-two years at Wisconsin, Lottridge was a member of the Wingra Quintet, a very active faculty ensemble which has done extensive touring throughout the state of Wisconsin and the U.S. During the 1997-98 academic year he is teaching part time at the University of Iowa and continues to play principal bassoon in the Madison Symphony Orchestra, a position he has held since arriving at Wisconsin.
