Bio: James Jeter (bassoon) is principal bassoonist with the Atlantic Sinfonietta, St. Cecelia and Masterwork Chorus Orchestras, and Westfield (New Jersey) Symphony. Active as a freelance bassoonist and recording artist in New York City, he has performed with the Metropolitan Opera, Opera Orchestra of New York, New York Virtuosi Chamber Orchestra, St. Luke's Chamber Ensemble, Jupiter Symphony, Alvin Ailey Dance Company, Colorado Music Festival, and other orchestras in New York and abroad. Jeter made his Weill Recital Hall debut in 1980 and was invited by the Carnegie Hall Corporation to perform a solo recital as part of its 1985 Debuts and Encores Series. He gave the New York premiere of the Françaix Concerto and has appeared as soloist with the Atlantic Sinfonietta, Connecticut Chamber Orchestra, Maine's Arcady Music Festival, and Switzerland's Orchestergesellschaft Biel. A founding member of the Virtuosi Quintet, he has recorded for Crystal Records, Koch International Classics, Capstone Records, and Musical Heritage Society. Jeter's teachers have included Milan Turkovic, Harold Goltzer, James Dickie, Sylvia Kushner, and Carmine Caruso. He holds a BM from the University of Texas at Austin and MM from the Juilliard School.
