Bio: Charles Kaufmann (bassoon) teaches at Bates College, Bowdoin College, and the Portland Conservatory. A founding member of the Lygonia Consort, he recently performed as substitute principal bassoonist with the Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra of Boston, Rhode Island Philharmonic, and New Hampshire Symphony. As a full-time member of the Bergen (Norway) Philharmonic, he participated in recordings for Virgin, BIS, the Norwegian Cultural Fund, and Norwegian Broadcasting. Kaufmann is organist and choir director of the Congregational Church of Exeter, New Hampshire, and host of a classical music radio program on WPKM-FM of Scarborough, Maine. Twice a Tanglewood Fellow, he received the programs's C. D. Jackson Master Award. Kaufmann has studied with K. David van Hoesen, Arthur Weisberg, Sherman Walt, and Louis Skinner. He received his BM and performer's certificate from the Eastman School of Music and MM from Yale University School of Music.
