Bio: Jeffrey Lyman (bassoon) joined the faculty of Arizona State University in 1996 after teaching at Bowling Green State University. He has served as principal bassoonist with the Savannah Symphony and has played with the Grand Rapids Symphony, Toledo Symphony, Michigan Opera Theater, Opera Company of Philadelphia, Colorado Music Festival, Peninsula Music Festival, and St. Bart's Chamber Orchestra in the French West Indies. As a soloist he has appeared with the University of Iowa Center for New Music, University of Michigan Contemporary Directions Ensemble, and orchestras at Arizona State University, the University of Michigan, and Bowling Green State University. At the 1996 Moscow Autumn Festival he gave the world premiere of a new bassoon concerto composed for him by Yuri Kasparov. He can be heard on recordings issued by New World Records, Koch International, and Braswell. In the summer Lyman teaches at the Academic Européene d'Été de Musique in Tournon-sur-Rhone, France. Lyman is cohost, with Martin Schuring, of the 1998 IDRS con-ference in Tempe, Arizona. A student of Bernard Garfield and Richard Beene, he earned a bachelor's degree summa cum laude from Temple University and master's and doctoral degrees in bassoon performance with highest honors from the University of Michigan.
