Bio: John Miller (bassoon) has served as principal bassoonist with the Minnesota Orchestra and a faculty member at the University of Minnesota since 1971. Frequently heard as a soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra and other orchestras, he has presented master classes and recitals throughout the world. His recent Pro Arte recordings include concertos by Vivaldi, Mozart, and Vanhal. Founder of the Bubonic Bassoon Quartet and Boston Baroque Ensemble, he has toured the United States and Norway with the American Reed Trio. Miller attracts hundreds of professional, student, and amateur bassoonists to the John Miller Bassoon Symposium, offered annually since 1984. A student of Louis Skinner, Arthur Weisberg, Stanley Petrulis, Sherman Walt, Stephen Maxym, and Thorn de Klerk, Miller was trained at the Peabody Conservatory and New England Conservatory as well as in Amsterdam on a Fulbright grant. He also holds a BS in humanities and engineering from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
