Bio: Henry Schuman (oboe) studied with Harold Gomberg and has made a distinguished career as an orchestral oboist, soloist, and chamber music performer. A long-time top freelancer in New York, Henry played first oboe with the American Symphony, English horn with the Symphony of the Air under Leopold Stokowski (with whom he recorded the solo in Act III of Tristan), plays the piano, and conducts periodically in New York and other parts of the world. He has taught frequently at music festivals in Brazil, and has conducted all of the orchestras in Sao Paulo. Currently he is principal oboe of the Brooklyn Philharmonic (Dennis Russell Davies, Music Director), and the Opera Orchestra of New York, and is, since some years, on the staff of the Manhattan School of Music, when he is not flying off on professional journeys to music festivals (St. Bart's) and master classes in the U.S. or abroad (Forum de Musique de Chambre in Lyon).
