Past IDRS Officers and Staff – 1972 to Present

The following is a compilation of all the Officers who have served the International Double Reed Society since the first slate of candidates was elected in 1972. As the Constitution of the Society has evolved, so have these various offices. Some have been added, some consolidated, and some dropped over the years.

Elected-Positions

“The President shall be the chief executive officer and active head of the Society, and, in the recesses of the Board of Directors, shall have general control and management of all its business affairs. In addition, the President shall make regular reports to the Board showing the conditions of the affairs of the Society, and make recommendations relating to the business and property of the Society as the President deems necessary; perform generally all of the duties inherent to the office of the President and as required or authorized by law; serve as an ex-officio member of all standing and special committees, with the power to fill vacancies on all committees.”

(In the original IDRS Constitution, this position was defined as two offices: Recording Secretary and Corresponding Secretary. In 1977, the role of the Corresponding Secretary was taken over by the Treasurer. In 1984, the Treasurer/ Corresponding Secretary position itself changed to become the Executive Secretary/Treasurer, which continued until 2017).

“Oversee the management of the financial affairs of the organization; prepare an annual budget; regularly monitor and compare the actual revenues and expenses incurred against such budget; keep the Board apprised of key financial events, trends, and concerns; ensure the completion of required financial reporting forms (including the IRS Form 990) in a timely manner and make these forms available for the Board’s review.”

In the early years of the Society this was an elected position. As the Society grew, the workload of keeping membership and finances updated and current led to the creation of the Executive Secretary/Treasurer position in 1984. In 2018, the position of Executive Secretary/Treasurer was split into two interim roles of Membership Coordinator and Administrative Director/Treasurer.

At-Large Members over the years

In order to have better representation of the membership on the “Executive Committee” of the Society, the “Constitution” was changed in 1995 to add two new voting positions: Member-At -Large (Bassoon and Oboe).

In 2009, a third Member-At-Large (Business) was added to the voting members of the Executive Committee.

The “Code of Regulations” was adopted in 2021 to add two more voting positions: Associate Organizations and Avocational.

The IDRS website, idrs.org, is currently managed by a professional website design team. The website was originally created in 1996 by Yoshi Ishikawa as one of the Society’s first digital properties.
