Fingerings

In 2020 IDRS enlisted the help of five editors to create a database of over 500 standard fingerings, trill fingerings, and fingerings for difficult musical passages for all levels of double reed players. In 2024 we will be renewing and expanding the Fingerings project volunteer team.

As a growing resource, we invite our community to help us include period instruments and as many international systems as possible. If you are interested in becoming the Oboe Fingerings Coordinator or an editor for the English, German, and/or Viennese oboe, or period instruments, please email us at fingerings@idrs.org.

All standard fingerings are listed first. They are also marked with a circle icon. Fingerings that have several suggestions (you’ll see more options when you click through), are marked with a circle + icon.

Find Your Note

Use the interactive staff to choose which note you want to view fingerings for. Don’t see the note you are looking for? Look for the “range” option from the side menu to explore the full range of every instrument.

Use the side bar on the right-hand side to check categories on or off and display results on the page.
