Assistant Professor of Bassoon University of Kansas

Description:

The University of Kansas School of Music seeks to fill a full-time, academic year (nine month), artist performer to teach applied bassoon beginning on August 18, 2024. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor (tenure-track).

Job Description
Teaching 40%
Teach applied bassoon lessons (undergraduate and graduate) and related courses
Build and maintain a strong bassoon studio
Supervise/mentor teaching assistants
Teach additional music major and /or non-major courses of candidate’s expertise in musicology and/or music theory
Research/Creative Work 40%
Establish a research/creative agenda pursuant of artistic growth and an expanding reputation of excellence
Participate actively and collaboratively in the cultural and intellectual life of the School and the University.
Service 20%
Work individually and collaboratively in recruiting music performance, music education, and music therapy students
Work cooperatively in support of the School of Music and the University
Serve on graduate and faculty committees

Required Qualifications
Doctoral degree in music OR a Master’s degree in music and three years of professional performance experience
Demonstrated record of productive teaching excellence and recruitment at the collegiate or equivalent level
Documented success as a bassoon artist/performer
