Understanding the history of music education and curricular development in other countries can be crucial to the creation of an inclusive music education program in one’s own country. After the Korean War (1950-53) divided the country, the Republic of Korea, or South Korea, modeled its higher education system on the U.S., although Korean educators also developed their own curriculum, pedagogy and practices. This lecture will provide an overview of Korean bassoon education and a detailed discussion of the histories and curricula of bassoon education programs at selected music institutions in South Korea.
