Ian Wisekal, oboe
Warm-ups aren’t part of most oboists’ personal routines or pedagogy. If they are, they tend to be boring and/or off-putting. But I’ve found that my own consistency and control – as well as that of my students – benefit enormously from a brief, focused daily regimen.
I will present three levels of flexible exercises (beginner/intermediate, advanced high school/collegiate, and grad school/professional) that focus specifically on the four main elements of oboe playing, in order of importance: Air, Face (embouchure), Tongue, and Fingers.
