Getting to Oxford

Car

Arriving by Car

Oxford is located in southwestern Ohio, near the borders of Indiana and Kentucky.  U.S. Route 27 runs north-south through Oxford and connects Oxford to areas like Cincinnati, Lexington, and Chattanooga.  Ohio State Route 73 runs east-west through Oxford as well.

Oxford’s placement in the Midwest is within a four hour drive of numerous major cities including Indianapolis, Columbus, and Detroit.

Parking: Attendees planning to park a car on campus must register for a FREE parking permit, which will allow for parking in any “RED” surface lot on campus. This permit is created specifically for IDRS attendees, and is different from visitor passes available on the university’s parking website.

Instructions to register for this permit:

  • First, click the permit link. Select SIGN UP in the upper right corner of the form. (On the rare occasion that someone is already registered in the parking system, they should LOG IN.)
  • Create your guest account.
  • Close the website and then reenter it using the permit link.
  • Select GUEST LOGIN from the bottom of the page to log in as your newly created account.
  • Proceed to register for the ZERO dollar permit.

Note: There are not many large “Red” parking lots near performance venues, and spaces are not guaranteed.  For longer term parking, we recommend:

  • Cook Field Parking Lots
  • Bachelor Parking Lot
  • Heritage Commons Lots (attendees staying in the campus apartments will be allowed to park there)

Miami University is a cashless campus.  If you park in a paid parking area, you must pay using the Passport Parking app.

More detailed maps for IDRS are available on Campus Maps + Accessibility.

Plane

Arriving by Plane

The two best major airports for flying to Oxford, Ohio, are Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) and Dayton International Airport (DAY).  Both are approximately an hour’s drive from campus and offer rental cars, private shuttles, and rideshare/taxi services. Please note that the hotels with reserved blocks for IDRS do not provide shuttles to/from either airport.

Rideshares to/from the airport may cost around $100 per Uber or Lyft ride; it is highly encouraged to coordinate airport transportation with other conference attendees to share this cost.  IDRS is unable to facilitate carpool coordination; we recommend reaching out to colleagues and other members who may have similar itineraries to your own.

Oxford may have fewer on-demand transportation options available for rides as far as the airport, so we recommend reserving a rideshare or shuttle in advance to ensure your travel goes as planned. For more help, please visit Enjoy Oxford’s transportation page.

Train

There is no direct rail (Amtrak) service to Oxford; the nearest rail (Amtrak) station locations are in Cincinnati, OH (Union Terminal) and Connersville, IN.  The city of Cincinnati, like Oxford, is served by Greyhound and FlixBus, however these buses do not stop directly at the Cincinnati Union Terminal Amtrak stop.  You would need to transfer from the train station to the bus stop at another location.
