The history of women bassoonists is noticeably short considering the centuries of rich history that men have enjoyed on the instrument. Over the past several decades, women bassoonists have begun to win auditions and become recognized as elite performers and teachers. But how did we get to this point? By preserving this history, highlighting influential women, and insisting on effective and meaningful discourse, we can further our efforts to ensure women are able to make important contributions to the bassoon community.
