Oboists looking for new solo repertoire of a lighter nature are welcome to share my explorations from an online lockdown recital presented last June. The Van Eyck works were written a century before the Telemann Fantasies and are part of a collection of over 140 works for the recorder. Georg Tromlitz was a renowned flutist and pedagogue whose Six Partitas for solo flute are a refreshing delight. The two Stephen Foster works are found in his 1854 collection “The Social Orchestra”. The Dutch composer Sigtenhorst Meyer composed the lovely Rustic Miniatures for the legendary oboist Jaap Stotijn 20 years before Britten wrote his Metamorphoses. The two premieres on the program by Carranza and Argentesi are both colorful virtuoso showpieces. The Carranza is available on www.sheetmusicplus.com, the rest of the music is available for free on IMSLP.
