In the late 1960’s, while teaching in Republic of Congo, I was given an old oboe that I am wanting to restore and am searching for history of the instrument and era. It has markings stamped on all three sections, “I Lott B&S L”. I have done an online search and have not been able to find anything definite with respect to the approximate date of manufacture, nor the manufacture. It could be that “B&S” is actually Berthold & Sohne (Berthold & Sohne).
Does anyone knowledgeable about antique instruments have any information about either Lott or Bert hold & Sohne that might help me date the instrument? Please replay to obojohn40@gmail.com. thank you. John Amstutz, Noblesville, IN
