COOPER, PROFESSOR EMERITUS LEWIS HUGH; age 86; born December 31, 1920 to Gladys Everett Yocum and Lewis Hugh Cooper Sr. in Pontiac, Michigan; passed away April 26, 2007. Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Nadillae Virginia Savage Cooper; two children Judith A. Cocking and David L. Cooper (Susan); 5 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren. Preceded in death by one grandson, Gregory Cooper. Mr. Cooper graduated from the University of Michigan School of Music and continued to teach Bassoon there for an additional 52 years, retiring in 1997. During this period he also played in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra for 20 years. He was a Mason, an author, was instrumental in the organization of the Double Reed Society and was known nationally and internationally as a teacher, and friend to many. A Celebration of Professor Emeritus Coopers’ Life will be held Wednesday, May 2, 2007,11:30 a.m. at Donelson, Johns and Evans Funeral Home, 5391 Highland Rd., Waterford, MI. Pastor Tom Hampton officiating. Interment White Chapel Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday, Monday and Tuesday 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations would be greatly appreciated to the Hugh and Nan Cooper Scholarship Fund at the University of Michigan School of Music, at University Of MI.
