Chairperson for the Fernand Gillet-Hugo Fox International Competition –
Oboe (February 2026 – December 2029)

Position Description

The IDRS is seeking applicants for the 2027 and 2029 Fernand Gillet-Hugo Fox International Competition for Oboe Chairperson. The position will begin February 2026 until December 2029.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work with the IDRS Competition Coordinator, Committee, and Gillet-Fox Competition Advisory Committee in selecting appropriate and diverse repertoire for the competition.
  • Work with the above committees in selecting qualified preliminary and final round judges
  • Prepare competition announcements for the IDRS website, newsletter, and social media in collaboration with the IDRS Communications Coordinator and Competition Coordinator.
  • Coordinate and manage online applications and judging portal in Acceptd
  • Organize all aspects of the competition’s final round with conference hosts
  • Attend and oversee the competition final round during the 2027 and 2029 IDRS conferences
  • Promote the competition in all appropriate platforms, including video interviews with finalists
  • Publish an article reporting on the competition in the fall issue of the Double Reed

Qualifications:

  • Professional experience as an oboist with deep knowledge of the oboe repertoire
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in computer software applications including Google Suite
  • Superior organizational skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with others.
  • Membership in IDRS required

Other:

  • The conference registration fee, accommodation and preapproved travel expenses will be covered by IDRS during the 2027 and 2029 competitions.
  • This is a voluntary position.

Volunteer Position

IDRS Double Reed Band Coordinator

Term:

2-years with the possibility of renewal

Position Description:

For the first time in 2026, IDRS will be making the double reed band (often called the Handel Fireworks event and internationally known as the IDRS Double Reed Band for setting the Guinness World Record in 2018, Spain (500 oboes and bassoons) an official, ongoing conference activity. Previously an ad hoc endeavor, the IDRS Double Reed Band will be open to IDRS members and conference attendees of every level of experience.

The IDRS Double Reed Band Coordinator will coordinate all aspects of this official IDRS conference activity.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Conference Coordinator and Executive Assistant
  • Follow the IDRS Double Reed Band Coordinator Guidelines
  • Maintain all files and documents in Google Drive
  • Select repertoire selections and submit for approval to the board at least six months prior to the conference and assist with the organization of pàrts to be used by attendees
  • Assist in recruiting a Band director or serve as the Band director
  • Assist in the registration, organization and logistics of the band rehearsals and sessions during the conference
  • Keep the webpage updated, in coordination with the Conference Coordinator and webmaster
  • Assist with content for social media posts about the Band before the conference, in coordination with the Conference and Communications Coordinator
  • Provide information for the conference program book and The Double Reed journal
  • Be present at the Conference (Registration will be covered by IDRS)
  • At the Conference
    Confirm locations for the rehearsals and sessions on location. Assist the Band director (when applicable) and help during the rehearsals. Assist with general organization of schedule etc
  • Post Conference
    Prepare a report for the Journal and the Board of Directors. In collaboration with the Communications Coordinator, collect conference photos that were taken during the conference

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with various aspects of IDRS (Code of Regulations, membership categories, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Superior organizational skills
  • The ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with others.
  • Google Workspace (Sheets, Docs, Forms)
  • Zoom
  • IDRS Membership is required

Other:

  • The conference registration fee will be covered by IDRS
  • This is a voluntary position.

  • To encourage the improvement of instruments, reeds, and related materials.
  • To encourage the composition and arranging of music for double reeds.
