The original Yamaha/Heckel 8605 prototype

Item Description:

THE original, unique, copy of Heckel 8605 bought from original owner, co-principal LA Philharmonic, upon his retirement. He used it exclusively x 6 seasons. Made by a single craftsman. Prewar Heckel 2C and post war Heckel 2B bocals. Inquiries to Paul Nordby.

Additional Details:

This bassoon was a prototype made for acoustic research and was not originally intended to be sold, hence no stamp on the bell.
Original owner tried it at the Yamaha factory in Japan while LA Phil was on tour.
He and conductor Andre Previn liked it so much that they convinced Yamaha eventually to sell it.
This is NOT a production line Yamaha bassoon which more than holds its own against several Heckels.
Even scale intonation and timbre.
