This new outreach work, The Double Reed Duckling, includes music by Dr. Andrew West, story by Dr. Leia Barrett, and illustrations by Candace Neal. This presentation was accepted for the 2020 conference, originally as a bassoon, oboe, and piano trio. Instead, the work will be premiered for woodwind quintet and narrator, with Candace Neal narrating. The work follows a musical duckling, Reid, who is choosing his first instrument. He decides to forgo the easy path, picking the bassoon. Celebrating the power of perseverance and an introduction to the woodwind family, this presentation will include illustrations from the same named children's book, scheduled to be published Fall 2021.
