Vacancy Announcement – Bassoon

Position: Artist/Teacher of Bassoon. Full-time (9-month), tenure track.

Rank: Assistant Professor

Starting Date: August 16, 2012

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master of Music in Bassoon Performance. Demonstrated effectiveness of solo  and chamber music performance and successful teaching at the college level.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Doctor of Musical Arts in Bassoon Performance. Evidence of success in undergraduate and graduate recruiting and mentoring. Experience guiding graduate creative activity at the doctoral level. Creative/scholarly accomplishments demonstrated through national and international performances, master classes, presentations at music educator forums, recordings, publications, and/or professional leadership.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach and recruit undergraduate and graduate bassoon students in music degree programs and coach woodwind chamber ensembles. Perform with the Oklahoma Woodwind Quintet.  Serve on graduate committees including DMA research documents. Work with ensemble areas for auditions and placement in major ensembles and chamber music. Contribute to School, College and University service. Maintain an active and visible international, national and regional performance and outreach schedule.

GENERAL INFORMATION: The OU School of Music offers degrees at the bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral levels in the areas of composition, education, musicology, performance or theory and is the only comprehensive music program in Oklahoma.  The School of Music presents 400 performing and scholarly events each year with 61 full-time faculty members and 450 undergraduate and graduate students.  The School of Music is part of the Weitzenhoffer Family College of Fine Arts, one of 19 colleges within OU.  The University of Oklahoma is a major national research university with 28,600 students.  Norman, a community of 103,000 is located twenty minutes south of Oklahoma City, a metropolitan area exceeding 1 million.  The University of Oklahoma has been an institutional member of NASM since 1931.
