New NHYAC Oboe Chair: Welcome Celeste Johnson

We are excited to announce that Celeste Johnson has accepted our offer to be the Chair of the Norma Hooks Young Artist Competition Chair in Oboe! Learn more about our competitions.

About Celeste Johnson:
Celeste Johnson is the Associate Professor of Oboe at the University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory. As a performer, she has appeared with the Kansas City Symphony, Tulsa Symphony Orchestra and Sarasota Opera, among others. Celeste regularly performs at International Double Reed Society conferences, and has presented clinics at both the Texas and Oklahoma Music Educators Association conferences. Her first recording, KaleidosCoping, was released on the Equilibrium label in 2019 and features 21stcentury works for flute, oboe and piano. Celeste’s current recording project, Wider Than the Sky, features works by women composers and is anticipated to be released in 2021. A prize-winner in both the Gillet/Fox and Barbirolli International Oboe Competitions, Celeste holds degrees from the University of Illinois and Eastman School of Music. Her primary teachers include Richard Killmer, Nancy Ambrose King, Dan Stolper and Phil Koch.
